FAQ - Häufig gestellte Fragen
How does the smart things s26 L PoE adapter with Lightning connector work?
The smart things s26 L is a Power over Ethernet adapter that converts the PoE voltage from a network cable into a 5-volt power supply with up to 12 watts for Apple iPads with a Lightning connector. At the same time, the adapter forwards wired 10/100 Fast Ethernet data to the iPad via the Lightning connector. Thus only a single Ethernet cable is needed to supply the iPad with both power and a wired Internet connection. The adapter is compatible with the IEEE 802.3af standard and works with any PoE-capable switch or injector. The maximum range is up to 100 meters, allowing flexible placement of the iPad within a building. The integrated 90 cm Lightning cable provides a straightforward connection without additional accessories. The input voltage is 50 volts with a tolerance range of 44 to 57 volts, ensuring reliable operation with different PoE switches. The wired data connection offers significantly higher network security compared to a wireless connection, which is an important advantage especially in business environments and security-relevant applications.
Which iPads and applications are compatible with the sCharge PoE Lightning adapter?
The smart things s26 L is compatible with all Apple iPads that have a Lightning connector. These include, among others, the iPad 5th to 9th generation, the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 4 and 5, and the iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9 first and second generation. The adapter was specifically developed for permanently installed iPad applications where continuous power and a stable network connection are required. Typical use cases include videoconferencing systems with Zoom Room, GoToMeeting, Webex, or Skype, where the iPad serves as a room controller or conference display. It is also used at POS stations in retail, at kiosk systems in public facilities, or as a scheduling display in reception areas. The plug-and-play design allows quick and easy installation without technical knowledge. The adapter is optimized for fast charging and better throughput, so the iPad remains operational even with simultaneous power and data use.
What advantages does a PoE adapter offer compared to conventional power supply?
A PoE adapter like the smart things s26 L offers several decisive advantages over conventional power supplies using adapters and mains sockets. The most important advantage is the reduction to a single cable for power and data, which significantly simplifies installation and provides a tidy appearance. No separate power sockets are required at the point of use, which is particularly useful for wall mounts or in areas without nearby power outlets. Centralized power via the PoE switch also enables easy management and monitoring of all connected devices. In combination with the smart things sDock or sDock Fix wall mounts, a professional and secure tablet installation for permanent operation is achieved. The compact form factor of the adapter, measuring only 80 x 30 x 23 mm, allows unobtrusive placement or concealed mounting. The plastic housing is RoHS-compliant and designed for an operating temperature range of minus 10 to plus 60 degrees Celsius. Operating humidity may be between 5 and 90 percent, enabling use in a wide range of environments.
