FAQ - Häufig gestellte Fragen
Why is the spring-loaded RAM Mounts Uni-Conn docking station particularly suitable for vehicle use?
In mobile use, especially in vehicles, tablets are exposed to constant vibrations and shocks. The RAM Mounts GDS Uni-Conn Dock spring-loaded USB-C (RAM-GDS-DOCK-V12-U1CPU) addresses this challenge with an integrated spring quick-release solution. Instead of a rigid snap-in mechanism, the spring holds the tablet securely in the cradle and compensates for movements that can occur during driving. To insert, the GDS Uni-Conn adapter is pushed into the Octagon connector and pushed upward until the bottom can be seated in the dock. Power is supplied via USB-C with an output of 15W at a voltage of 5 to 12 volts. The integrated pogo pins provide a reliable connection for charging and data transfer. With the AMPS 2-hole pattern, the docking station can be mounted to various RAM Mounts mounting systems. For correct operation, the Uni-Conn adapter RAM-GDS-U1U must be mounted on the IntelliSkin protective case.
How does the spring-loaded docking station differ from the snap-in variant?
The essential difference between the spring-loaded and the snap-in docking station lies in the retention mechanism. While the snap-in variant secures the tablet with a latching mechanism that is released by pressing a lever, the spring-loaded version uses a coil spring that holds the device in position through constant pressure. This offers the advantage that the tablet is held a bit more flexibly and vibrations are better absorbed. Insertion and removal are also intuitive and can be performed with one hand. The spring-loaded variant is therefore particularly well suited for vehicle applications where the tablet is regularly docked and undocked. The compact input cable length of approximately 100 mm is optimized for tight installation conditions in vehicles. Both variants share compatibility with the Uni-Conn adapter and the IntelliSkin protective cases. When choosing between the variants, the intended use should be considered: for stationary workstations the snap-in version is often sufficient, while the spring-loaded variant is the better choice for mobile applications with vibration loads.
For which application areas is the spring-loaded USB-C charging station particularly suitable?
The spring-loaded Uni-Conn docking station was primarily designed for use in vehicles, where tablets are used as navigation devices, order-picking tools, or mobile information systems. The mount is particularly compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active3 and Active5 in combination with the appropriate IntelliSkin protective case. In transport and logistics, drivers benefit from the tablet being held securely despite vibrations while being charged at the same time. It is also a proven solution for service vehicles, emergency vehicles, or construction vehicles. However, it should be noted that the Uni-Conn docks are generally not recommended for use in open cabs such as forklifts. For such particularly demanding environments, RAM Mounts offers the more robust GDS Tough-Dock mounts. The docking station can be seamlessly integrated into the extensive RAM Mounts mounting program via the AMPS hole pattern and combined with various arms, balls, and mounting solutions. The 15W charging power is sufficient to reliably operate the compatible Samsung tablets in daily use.
